HOW MANY PLAYERS DO WE NEED ON MY TEAM FOR DODGEBALL?
Our Dodgeball leagues are 5 or 6 a-side. The team must include a minimum of two (2) males, and two (2) females and all remaining players can be any gender including gender-diverse people. You decide how many players are on your roster, but we recommend around 8 to account for subs, and weeks when people can’t make it.
I HAVE NEVER PLAYED DODGEBALL, WILL I STILL BE OK TO REGISTER AND PLAY?
If you are completely new to the sport (or haven’t played in a while), ensure you choose a recreational division when registering and you will be taught everything on the first night. We have friendly League Hosts who coach and care and will help you develop your game throughout the season.
I AM HOPING TO REGISTER AS A TEAM, BUT I AM JUST GETTING IT ALL ORGANISED, WILL I MISS OUT?
Most leagues allow you to pay a $150 deposit to lock in your team space. The final amount is due before the league starts. Some leagues sell out quickly, so pay the deposit ASAP to avoid disappointment.
I DON’T HAVE A TEAM, I WANT TO REGISTER ON MY OWN, IS THAT POSSIBLE?
Yes, we offer individual registration as well. Click here to see the FAQ’s and more info about signing up for an individually formed team.
I DON’T HAVE A TEAM, I WANT TO REGISTER WITH A FRIEND(S), IS THAT POSSIBLE?
Yes, register as an individual and you and your friends can join together and meet other people. You can find out more here.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING, OR WEAR WHEN PLAYING THIS SPORT?
Your team can choose a coordinated colour or shirt. Individual teams are given pre-allocated team colours. Wear normal runners and activewear.
Urban Rec will supply all the equipment needed to play.
HOW LONG DO THE GAMES LAST FOR?
In Dodgeball, we play two 20-minute halves. If your team show up late those times might be shortened, so lace up and be ready! You can view the sports rules for more detailed information on subbing players, half-time breaks etc.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I REGISTER?
You will start receiving information about your league via email, so make sure you add [email protected] to your address book.
WHO IS MY MAIN POINT OF CONTACT AT URBAN REC?
We love people and for that reason, you have a dedicated League Manager who will be your main point of contact throughout the season. You will also have a League Host who is part coach, and part referee, and they will be there each week to run your games.

FAQ’S FOR RULES
Q: I threw a ball, and it hit two members, are they both out?
A: No, the ball has already hit a person, and so therefore became a dead ball by the time it hit the next player.
Q: The team keeps feeding balls back into their own team’s side of the court, is this allowed?
A: Yes, there is nothing illegal about retrieving the balls, and sending them into their own field. Team members who are out are NOT allowed to hold the balls out of court and feed or throw them back in on demand. A player will be forfeited off the field for this.
Q: The ball hit me on the foot, and I couldn’t tell if it was a bounce, or it got me?
A: Benefit of the doubt says you likely got hit, Go off, and karma will come back to you.
Q: I caught a ball off the back or rebound of a fence/wall/player is that a catch?
A: No, it’s not a catch; the ball is deemed dead after it hit the first object, so you essentially caught a dead ball. If you are playing in a caged environment, catches off the cage may be allowed.
Q: I am injured, and need a break, but I am not out, can someone come on for me?
A: Sure, make sure you let the ref know what you are doing.
Q: The ball hit me on the forearm, am I still out?
A: Yes, you did not deflect the ball successfully, you are out.
Q: I deflected the ball, and it hit my stomach/leg/foot on the way down, am I out?
A: Yes, you did not deflect the ball successfully, you are out.
Q: I failed to deflect a ball, and it hit my face, is this a headshot?
A: No, it’s a failed deflection, sorry you’re out.
