HOW MANY PLAYERS DO WE NEED ON MY TEAM FOR NETBALL?

We have 5 a-side and 7 a-side leagues. The team must include a minimum of one (1) male, and two (2) females and all remaining players can be any gender including gender-diverse people. You decide how many players are on your roster, but we recommend about 8 to account for subs, and weeks when people can’t make it.

I HAVE NEVER PLAYED NETBALL, WILL I STILL BE OK TO REGISTER AND PLAY?

If you are completely new to the sport (or haven’t played in a while), ensure you choose a recreational division when registering and you will be taught everything on the first night.  We have friendly League Hosts who coach and care and will help you develop your game throughout the season

I AM HOPING TO REGISTER AS A TEAM, BUT I AM JUST GETTING IT ALL ORGANISED, WILL I MISS OUT?

Most of our leagues allow you to pay a $150 deposit to lock in your team space. The final amount is due before the league starts. Some leagues sell out quickly, so pay the deposit ASAP to avoid disappointment.

I DON’T HAVE A TEAM, I WANT TO REGISTER ON MY OWN, IS THAT POSSIBLE?

Yes, we offer individual registration as well. Click here to see the FAQ’s and more info about signing up for an individually formed team.

I DON’T HAVE A TEAM, I WANT TO REGISTER WITH A FRIEND(S), IS THAT POSSIBLE?

Yes, register as an individual and you and your friends can join together and meet other people.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING, OR WEAR WHEN PLAYING THIS SPORT?

On the first night, teams will be asked to bring their team bibs. If you do not have a set of team bibs, you can purchase them from Urban Rec. Individual teams are given a set of bibs for their season to keep. For Netball, normal runners and activewear is fine.

Urban Rec will supply all the equipment.

HOW LONG DO THE GAMES LAST FOR?

In Netball, we play four 8-minute quarters. If your team show up late those times might be shortened, so lace up and be ready! You can view the sports rules for more detailed information on subbing players, breaks etc.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I REGISTER?

You will start receiving information about your league via email, so make sure you add [email protected] to your address book.

WHO IS MY MAIN POINT OF CONTACT AT URBAN REC?

We love people and for that reason, you have a dedicated League Manager who will be your main point of contact throughout the season. You will also have a League Host who is part coach, and part referee, and they will be there each week to run your games.

DO WE NEED TO REMOVE JEWELLERY AND CLIP NAILS?

We have a sensible approach to this. We suggest taking any dangling jewellery off, but we do not enforce it, or check the length of your nails before a game. We are not that kind of comp. Use your common sense when playing and choosing what to wear.

DO THE TEAMS TRAIN OR PRACTICE?

Generally, no. Because it’s a recreational league, most teams show up on the night of play and maybe warm up together. If you and your team want to practice that’s completely a team decision, and not something we facilitate.

DO PLAYERS HAVE SET POSTITIONS IN THE GAME?

Generally, no. This is of course a team decision, but mostly players change and alternate their positions. It makes it more fun within a recreational league to mix things up. We do not recruit or organise teams according to their preferred positions. You can organise that among yourselves.

FAST5 RULES FAQ’S

WHO CAN SHOOT?

Goal Shooter, and Goal Attack can take a hot within the goal circle for 1 point, and outside of the goal circle for 3 points. The Centre player may take a shot from outside the goal circle (3 pointer). No defending players can shoot.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A POWER ROUND?

Your team scores double in a power round. Yes, if one of your team mates scores a 3 pointer in a power round, it’s 6 points!

DO YOU HAVE GENDER SPECIFIC RULES?

Yes. Two male players cannot play together in both attacking and defending positions. Meaning two male player cannot play in GS and GA, or GK and GD. Also, jump shots are not allowed.

HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU RECOMMEND ON A TEAM?

Beacuse this league is 5 aside, we recommend having about 5-9 people on the team. Depending on how many of your players are consistent with turning up each week.

I HAVE PLAYED NETBALL MY WHOLE LIFE, WILL I ENJOY THIS SPORT?

You should! But remember a game of Fast5 Netball is a lot faster, and with less stoppage. You will less likely get called on things like stepping, or holding, or contact for every single pass. Some things will be let go in the name of the game. On top of that, playing beginners means some people are learning, so we don’t make every call against a beginner player. We allow them some room so they can still play and have a good time.
