  • Goals can only be scored from the ‘Attack Zone’
  • There are no designated goalkeepers
  • Once a goal is scored each zone players move forward a zone. i.e Attacking players move to the Midfield, Midfield players move to Defensive Zone & Defensive players move to the Attacking Zone. This is where substitutes can be made.

STARTING PLAY

  • All players will start in their designated zones
  • The centre pass must be backwards
  • Each time a goal is scored, the team conceding the goal shall re-start the game from the centre of the field, with a centre pass

THE BASICS

  • Players may use either side of the stick to push the ball and/or score. Only the “Attack” players can score goals from the Attack zone.
  • Accidental kicks are up to the Event Host discretion. If it was a clear accident then game will play on. Goals scored by foot will not count.
  • If the ball is hit over two-thirds, a hit will be awarded to the appropriate team on their defensive third line.
  • Intentional body contact is not allowed. Only one opposition player can ‘tackle’ another player at a time.
  • If the ball goes over the court barriers, a penalty hit is awarded against the team that touched the ball last.

FREE HITS are awarded at the Event Host discretion. Free hits may be issued for rough play or intentional contact with the sticks.

  • Offence Players: Can either pass to a team-mate or play on.
  • Defence Players: Must be 3m from the free hit when it is taken, unless when less than 3m from their own goal. In this case, one defensive player can stand on the goal line.

SAFETY

  • J-Ball is a non-contact sport. Players are encouraged to use their sticks only to play the ball not at the player.
  • For player safety, sticks should not be lifted above knee height at any time.
  • The ball should always be pushed with the sticks, not hit hard or with a full swing.
  • The ball can’t be intentionally played in the air, except if it is a shot on goal (in which case it can’t be higher than knee height). If the ball is raised higher than this – a free hit will be paid to the opposition.

URBAN REC SPECIFICS

FAIRPLAY SYSTEM Each league night you will have an Event Host onsite, but these guys are not official referees. Urban Rec is proud to be the best non-competitive league which practices fair play, meaning you should be making your own calls during the game. The Event Host will be there to make calls at their discretion, keep time and help guide the games within the game rules. Urban Rec Event Hosts have the final say on any issue that cannot be self-resolved.

SPORTSMANSHIP If you are seen to be rude or not playing within the respect of the rules your Event Host has the right to ask you to sub and take a break. If your Event Host then has to warn you more times then they have the right to ask you to leave the field or court and an assessment will be made if you can return to play. We don’t tolerate idiots, play fair.
